Removing blank on top of content pages

i have spent a good 3 hours searching and trying several options out there but nothing seems to work. i tried the dont muck my markup plugin, but it removes all formatting. I have paragraph plus line break at the very top of the content which makes a huge space using the twenty sixteen theme. Does anyone know of a work around to remove the <p><br></p> from the top of the content page only?
