Can a gallery be filtered by a dropdown and no submit button?

Here are my gallery and pagination shortcodes:

[mla_gallery attachment_category=”grill-accessories” mla_output=”paginate_links,prev_next” posts_per_page=”36″ columns=4]

[mla_gallery attachment_category=”grill-accessories” posts_per_page=”36″ link=file mla_rollover_text=”{+title+}” columns=4 size=full]

Ideally, I would like to filter this gallery with a dropdown that contains the child sub-categories under grill-accessories. I’d like to not have to use a submit button, but to trigger the filter by selecting the name in the dropdown. I’m fine with adding additional javascript or php to achieve this if needed.
