Mysterious Phantom Files

I would appreciate some help.

The company I work with had their website recreated as a WordPress powered site from the original Laravel powered website.

The finished product was demonstrated on the “developer’s” host. He was paid and provided the necessary files and the database.

Once I had the site up and running on my own host for testing I found it to be incredibly slow. After a cursory examination I found links to files and Java scripts on the developer’s site. I confronted him on this and a month later was provided with a new database that was supposed to correct the issue.

I’ve been in the process of making the site usable beginning with correcting broken links, most of which I’ve been able to resolve by resetting Permalink’s with Post name.

Looking at the source code for the home page I see files called by path and name where resetting Permalink’s corrected many of the 404 “file not found” errors there still remains many left to correct.

In trying to find a commonality between the files that are now corrected and the files still having the errors I found that none of the files exist. I contacted the developer and waited another month before he stated that he needed full administrative access to my site where he would do the required tweaks to get everything working… With the limited information I’ve been able to glean while I was going through the files 1. I wouldn’t trust any of the code he provided, without going through it with a fine tooth comb before publishing it and 2. The fact that he said that there was no password (which I found under another person’s name) subsequently changed to my own login credentials leads me to believe that he paid someone to have it done.

I confess I’m at a loss trying to figure how phantom files are created to display yet not exist on the server.

I’ve tried every trick I’ve used to try to find the answer but haven’t found any leads so any help would be muvh appreciated. If you are interested in helping browse to mymk.co and have a look.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Greg
