A client of mine was transitioning hosting providers. The new hosting provider went AWOL and never finished setting up the site. I received a copy of the site from the old hosting provider, and I attempted to set up a local copy via WAMP64 on windows 10 to inspect the files and see if everything was working. Running mysql version 5.7.21, PHP version 7.0.4, apache 2.4.18 I was able to get the site up and running seemingly okay but I cannot log into the wp-admin area at all.
I can get to the wp-login.php page okay, but when I try to log on for any user it just says that username / password is incorrect.
Things I have tried so far:
– disabling all plugins
– clearing browser cache
– resetting existing users passwords in the users table via PHPMyadmin
– trying a forgot password (it will say the user doesn’t exist)
– creating a completely new user and password and logging in with that
– replacing the wp-login.php file with a fresh one
